After the removal of the tooth , the bone begins to shrink over time . This unhealthy bone loss can make the jaw line recline , and changes the facial structure. Dental implants can avoid this by preventing the deterioration of the jaw bone.
Anybody above the age of 18 can undergo the procedure. The candidate has to be medically fit for the procedure . However some Medical problems can restrict the procedure.
Meticulous evaluation of the medical and dental status is made . Basic Radiological and Blood Investigations are mandatory , and for some Computerised tomography may be needed. The Dental Implant surgeon will decide in this stage the fitness for candidate for dental implants.
The dental implant is placed in the jaw either under Local Anesthesia or Sedation Anesthesia. Over the next several months , the bone heals around the implant , anchoring it into position. An additional minor procedure may be needed , to create an opening trough which the artificial tooth emerges.
Proper impressions are taken , and the Dental Prosthesis [ Tooth] is manufactured in the dental lab according to the candidates requirements. Once the process is over, the tooth is fixed to the implant . The candidate can utilise the tooth from the day of fixture.
The candidate may have to visit the clinic for periodic reviews. By maintaining a careful oral hygiene, the dental implants will look , function and feel great for many years to come.
